Mookie Betts, winner of the American League MVP in 2018, said recently on the Rob Bradford Podcast (WEEI) that he wasn’t a huge fan of Boston initially.

“When I first got here I wasn’t a huge fan of it. I really didn’t like the city that much, but it has definitely grown on me,” he explained. “Obviously we have great fans and a great fan base. It has definitely grown on me. I love my teammates. The front office, I think they do a good job of putting us in a good spot to succeed. Like I said, I’m with these guys eight out of 12 months and I couldn’t ask for a better group.”
Betts says that the experience of being away from Nashville was new to him and that being in Boston has made him able to adjust to life on the road and life in a big city.
Betts is a free agent after the 2020 season and his free agency will be a major storyline for Boston as they look to retain the 26-year-old catalyst. He’s hitting .267 this year with 11 homers.
