Odell Beckham Jr. sent the Twitter-sphere into a frenzy on Wednesday night by tweeting the following…
Just seen the schedule, it’s funny how God and the universe works…. week 1 surprise ????????????
The first thought was that the Browns were going to open up with the Giants, Beckham’s old team, but then people realized that the two teams aren’t scheduled to play in the regular season this year. The Giants crossover division is the AFC East, not the AFC North.
But then it was brought to people’s attention that the Browns do play the Jets… so could the former New York star get a piece of the Big Apple in Week 1? We do know the Browns are scheduled to visit New York, adding more intrigue as Beckham could return to the stadium he shined for the first five years of his career.
Rumors are out there that Jets-Browns would be on Monday Night Football in Week 1, as @BrianCoz noted, which would make sense given @obj’s tweet. Would also tie into NFL 100 – well, sort of: the first ever “Monday Night Football” game in 1970 was … Jets-Browns.
That seems to make sense, as the NFL will be very big on honoring its roots in 2019.
The official schedule won’t be released for a few weeks, but it’s fun to speculate. It would also mean that the Patriots, who are opening up on Sunday Night Football this year, won’t be playing the Browns in Week 1, as has been speculated by some.
