The Boston Celtics selected Jayson Tatum out of Duke with the No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday night. Tatum gives the Celtics more length on the perimeter and gives them more consistent scoring options. He lacks defensive ability and consistent rebounding at the moment, but I like the pick overall.
The Celtics had just one true scoring option last season in Isaiah Thomas and Tatum could be an instant 15 ppg player for Boston. His ability to hit the mid-range shot and to develop the outside shot gives the C’s plenty of potential.
There are rumors that Boston could trade the No. 3 pick here tonight, but if they hold onto Tatum, I like the pick. Josh Jackson went No. 4 overall to the Phoenix Suns. The Celtics had been looking at him as an option as well.
