Congratulations to Celtics forward Gordon Hayward, who won the NBAs Comeback Player of the Year Award, which was presented by the NBA Players Association.
Congrats @gordonhayward 👏👏 Year 2 of the comeback 🔜 #ItsAboutToBeCrazy https://t.co/eY94EH4OcH
It was a tumultuous year for Hayward, who was coming back off a devastating ankle injury that cost him all of 2017-18. He lost his starting spot and was apparently resented by some of his teammates, but he still played in 72 games, averaging more than 25 minutes per game.
And he scored 11.5 points per game for a Celtics team that finished fourth in the Eastern Conference and eventually lost in the conference semis to the Milwaukee Bucks.
