Sox Place Sandoval on 10-Day DL

As the Red Sox get ready to open up a series with the New York Yankees today, they’ll have to play their rivals without third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right knee sprain.

The #RedSox today placed 3B Pablo Sandoval on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to April 24) with a right knee sprain.

The team will bring up infielder Josh Rutledge in the meantime, who is just coming off the disabled list himself. Sandoval is hitting .213 this year with a sub-.300 on-base percentage. He has three home runs and 10 RBIs.

I predicted before the year that Sandoval would win Comeback Player of the Year in the American League and there is still time for that, but right now, it seems unlikely.

He hasn’t been consistent on the offensive side of things, but has still shown power and the ability to drive in runs. Being in such a potent lineup should help him be able to contribute in the run department.
